10 Tips for WDW with Preschoolers- Part 1

Part 1 of this 2 part series shares suggestions on spending time at Walt Disney World with your preschool-aged child.  From first hand experience and feedback from many clients, Travel Planner- Cheryl shares her best ideas.Tips 1-5:

  1. Start with a plan but allow yourself to go with the flow too! Seems obvious right?  Using a Goofy Getaways Travel planner is going to be the best thing you do.  Having a plan helps to give you an outline and a target but allowing your little one to call some of the shots will make it more enjoyable on both of you.  Talk to your travel planner about what to expect on certain attractions and if you feel this is right for your little one.  This helps to make the most of your experience in advance rather than guess once you are on site!  Know your MUST dos and then allow for the extras to fall into place when time allows!
  2. Know where the bathrooms are. Look at a map in advance of each park so when a sudden urgency arises you won’t have to stop to ask someone or pull up the map on the My Disney Experience app to check!  In an “emergency” moment it is great to be prepared!  Try to stop in the bathrooms when you pass by, getting it done before you get in line will help avoid that sudden urgent need!  And plan for frequent stops with little ones!
  3. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Cast members are located all throughout the parks; at the start and end of each attraction, in restaurants and shops and even walking around the parks.  They are great with little ones; they are there to help and sometimes they may even grant you with a little special pixie dust!
  4. Bring a good backpack!  Find a size that works best for you and is comfortable walking around with.  Fill it with things like wipes, tissues, hand sanitizer, a change of clothes and shoes, packable rain jacket or poncho, easy snacks, and sunscreen.   Activities for the little one to do in line or waiting at a restaurant helps too. It will rain and having an extra pair of shoes or change of clothes can save you a trip back to your resort.  Leave room for apple slices or carrots that come with quick service kids’ meals to save for later or even better pre-order from a place like amazon, they deliver to all Disney area resorts!
  5. Take advantage of the amazing pools! While you want to make the most of your time at Walt Disney World theme parks, the resorts have some pretty amazing pools to offer as well.  Schedule time for those whether it means planning a pool day between park days or leaving the parks early to take advantage of a late afternoon or evening swim!
