Building Experiences in Galaxy's Edge

Visiting Disney parks includes more than rides and seeing characters.  There are amazing interactive experiences as well.  Two of these immersive experiences are found in Galaxy's Edge: building a droid and building a light saber.Building a droid occurs at the Droid Depot.  You can select a BB or a R series droid.  Your droid will be able to interact with different parts of Galaxy's Edge and also comes with a remote control for you to use later.  This experience is for those 3 and older.  One guest may accompany the droid builder but may not help build the droid (parents/guardians are able to assist their children in building and one of the party must be at least 14 years old).  This experience lasts roughly 15-20 minutes and costs $99.99 per droid plus tax.[gallery columns="2" ids="2444,2445"]You can also continue in the way of the force and visit Savi's Workshop to build your own lightsaber.  You will be able to select from one of 4 hilt themes: Peace and Justice, Power and Control, Elemental Nature, or Protection and Defense.  Once you design and build your hilt, the Gatherers will connect your 31" lightsaber blade so you will be ready to fight alongside the resistance.  This experience is recommended for those 5 and older. One guest may accompany the builder but may not help build the lightsaber (parents/guardians are able to assist their children in building and one of the party must be at least 14 years old).  This experience lasts roughly 15-20 minutes and costs $219.99 per lightsaber plus tax.[gallery columns="2" ids="2446,2447"]Both experiences require advance reservations which can be made online.  Reservations can be booked 60 days in advance.A valid theme park ticket AND park pass reservation is required.Galaxy's Edge is located at Disneyland park in Disneyland California and in Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. Some things to know:

  • it helps to know which droid or hilt you want in advance so your full time in the experience is spent building your item
  • annual passholder/DVC discounts are not available on these experiences
  • Both items come with carry case but are larger than you might anticipate, making it difficult to bring your droid or lightsaber on other rides through out the day and they might get heavy so it helps to plan to drop your droid or lightsaber back at your resort or plan your building experience for later in the day.

Star Wars fans will feel the nostalgia and enjoy these immersive experiences.Want to learn more?  Reach out to your Goofy Getaways Travel Planner today!Images courtesy of Travel Planner Morgan Carter and Disney.  (Pictures were taken prior to COVID-19 face covering requirements)
